When new DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their first slate of projects, the first thing promised was the animated series Creature Commandos, which at that point was in production but not yet cast. Now, Gunn has confirmed the cast on Twitter—and it’s full of genre stalwarts, from Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Indira Varma (pictured above) to Resident Alien‘s Alan Tudyk and beyond!
Here’s the lineup, which was announced by Collider:
- Indira Varma as Bride of Frankenstein
- Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
- David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein (monster, not doctor)
- Zoe Chao as amphibious scientist Nina Mazursky
- Sean Gunn as both Weasel and the android G.I. Robot
- Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic
- Alan Tudyk as Doctor Phosphorus
And, of course, Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller, and Steve Agee returning as John Economos—who are expected to play similar roles for the Commandos as they do for the Suicide Squad.
According to Variety, Varma’s character is the show’s “main protagonist.” Variety also stressed one of the most promising things about this show’s cast: “When Gunn and Safran announced the first 10 titles of the new DCU at a press event in late January, they stressed that virtually all of the actors who voice the characters on the animated series will also perform as them should they appear in a future live-action DC production.”
Indira Varma as a live-action Bride of Frankenstein? Yes, please.
Gunn has written all of the episodes, though it’s not known how many there are. Creature Commandos will premiere in 2024.
